AWS announced its plans to establish an infrastructure region in Taiwan by early 2025, responding to the surge in demand for cloud services in the Asia-Pacific region.
Having invested in Taiwan since 2014, AWS is set to launch the AWS Asia Pacific (Taipei) region, featuring large-scale data centers to provide low-latency, high-speed transmission services to customers in Taiwan. This move will allow top businesses in Taiwan, such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, Chunghwa Telecom, and Acer, to leverage AWS services for their workloads.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, AWS’s vice president of infrastructure services, highlighted the empowering impact of the new AWS region in Taiwan, enabling businesses to fully utilize AWS’s diverse service offerings.
With the expansion, developers, startups, companies, and other entities in Taiwan will have access to more deployment locations and better serve their users. AWS also emphasized its commitment to allowing customers to store their content locally in Taiwan.
The significant investment AWS plans to make in Taiwan over the next 15 years underscores the region’s strategic importance in AWS’s global expansion strategy, positioning Taiwan as a key player in the global tech landscape.
Apart from Taiwan, AWS has also announced investments in Malaysia and Thailand, reflecting the company’s broader push in the Asia-Pacific region. Competitors like Google and Microsoft are also ramping up their investments in the region to capitalize on the growing digital economy.
In the cloud infrastructure services market, AWS maintains its lead with a 31% market share, ahead of competitors like Microsoft’s Azure. This dominance solidifies the cloud industry’s position as one of the most dynamic sectors in technology.
To delve deeper into AI and big data, industry professionals can explore events like the AI & Big Data Expo, Cyber Security & Cloud Expo, and Digital Transformation Week. These gatherings provide valuable insights and networking opportunities for those interested in cutting-edge technologies.
Overall, AWS’s expansion in Taiwan and the broader Asia-Pacific region signals a promising future for cloud services and technology innovation in the region, with Taiwan poised to play a crucial role in this digital transformation journey.
