Google launches Google Developer Program

Google has recently launched the Google Developer Program, aimed at providing developers with access to a range of tools and benefits, including technical assistance from Google’s Gemini AI technology. The program also offers Project IDX workspaces as part of its offerings.

Announced on June 3, the Google Developer Program is designed to help developers explore Google-sponsored developer communities. Key benefits of the program include AI developer assistance, accessible through a simple chat interface on various Google developer-facing websites such as Google for Developers, Firebase, and Google Cloud. The Gemini-powered developer assistance allows developers to access documentation pages, ask questions about Google tools, generate sample code, troubleshoot issues, and more. Developers can also receive natural language explanations of code snippets, test Google APIs without coding, find AI-powered answers to questions, and explore resources and documentation on Google for Developers.

Developers enrolled in the program can utilize up to five workspaces in the Project IDX cloud IDE, a cloud-based workspace that offers AI assistance for full-stack, multi-platform application development. Additionally, by joining the Google Cloud Innovators program, developers will receive complimentary interactive lab credits for the Google Cloud Skills Boost learning program, which includes training, skills development, and access to Google Cloud environments. Program members can also apply to join Google-sponsored groups such as the Cloud Innovators program.
