Zero-knowledge SNARK (Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge) is a powerful process that allows for the demonstration of knowledge without revealing sensitive information, all without the need for direct interaction between the prover and verifier.
“The recent development marks a significant advancement for the BitVMX proving system, showcasing its capability to validate and challenge the execution of a SNARK verifier directly on the blockchain,” stated Rootstock’s team.
Rootstock, a Bitcoin layer 2 solution, has successfully verified a SNARK proof in a groundbreaking achievement for the advancement of zero-knowledge proofs within the original blockchain network.
The verification was conducted on Rootstock’s mainnet, following a successful testnet verification the day prior.
“This breakthrough paves the way for replicating similar processes with any program compiled to the RISC-V architecture, utilizing BitVMX’s versatile virtual CPU,” added Rootstock’s team in a statement released on Thursday.
Rootstock utilized BitVMX, a modified version of BitVM, to verify the SNARK, enabling Ethereum-style smart contracts on the Bitcoin network.
