Oracle and AWS partner to bring Oracle Database to AWS cloud

A strategic partnership between Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been announced, with plans to launch Oracle Database@AWS in 2025. This collaboration will enable customers to access Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service directly on AWS infrastructure.

According to a statement by AWS, the goal of this partnership is to provide a seamless experience for customers using both Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS, offering integrated database administration, billing, and customer support.

Customers will have the ability to connect Oracle Database data to AWS services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Analytics, and machine learning tools like Amazon Bedrock. This integration will allow organizations to leverage their existing skills and quickly deploy, manage, and utilize Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service on AWS.

Larry Ellison, chairman and CTO at Oracle, emphasized the importance of meeting customer demand for multi-cloud options by connecting AWS services with Oracle Database technology. This partnership aims to address the need for low-latency connections between Oracle databases and AWS-hosted applications, potentially improving performance for enterprise workloads.

Matt Garman, CEO at AWS, highlighted the benefits of this deeper partnership, which will provide customers with access to Oracle Database services within AWS, combining the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of AWS with the enterprise software they rely on.

Key features of Oracle Database@AWS include integration with AWS Analytics services, migration options compatible with Oracle Zero Downtime Migration, procurement through AWS Marketplace, unified support from AWS and Oracle, and integration with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for database backups and disaster recovery.

The service will leverage AWS’s multi-Availability Zone architecture to enhance reliability. A preview is expected later this year, with wider availability in 2025 as it expands to new regions.

This partnership reflects a shift in cloud strategy, recognizing enterprise needs for solutions across multiple platforms. It offers organizations a way to utilize services from both cloud providers without the typical challenges of a multi-cloud approach.
