This week, Mozilla released an update for Firefox with significant feature enhancements. The release notes for Firefox 130 can be found here.

One of the key upgrades in Firefox 130 is the introduction of in-browser support for AI assistants.

Users can access this feature in the “Settings” menu under a new section called “Firefox Labs.” This section showcases Mozilla’s latest experimental features for users to explore.

Within the “Browsing” section of Firefox Labs, users will find the “AI chatbot” setting with customizable options. Enabling this feature will display a new side panel in the browser window, offering AI chat support.

Firefox’s in-browser AI chat integration is reminiscent of Microsoft Edge’s Microsoft Copilot Chat feature. However, Firefox distinguishes itself by providing a variety of chatbot options.

Currently, Firefox supports the following major chatbots:

  • Anthropic Claude
  • ChatGPT
  • Google Gemini
  • HuggingChat
  • Le Chat Mistral

Additionally, the Firefox 130 stable release introduces experimental options under Firefox Labs, including:

  • Auto Picture-in-Picture: Automatically enables picture-in-picture mode for videos when switching tabs.
  • Address bar with IME: Allows users to input complex symbols from Indic or East Asian languages using a standard keyboard.
  • Improved language translation: Enables users to translate selected text portions and entire pages.

Users can also explore the “Developer Tools” menu within the Firefox Labs section.

Enhanced Security Measures in Firefox 130

Alongside feature upgrades, Mozilla has addressed multiple security vulnerabilities in the latest browser version. The Firefox advisory highlights four high-severity vulnerabilities, four moderate-severity flaws, and one low-severity vulnerability.

It is crucial for users to update to the latest browser release to benefit from new features and stay protected against security threats.
