Google Launches Passkeys Sync With Google Password Manager

Google has introduced a new feature that allows users to sync their Passkeys using the Google Password Manager, enabling quick and easy access across multiple devices. This update aims to streamline the process of accessing and utilizing Passkeys on various platforms.

Sync Google Passkeys Across Devices

As outlined in a recent blog post by Google, users can now sync their Passkeys seamlessly across all devices, including desktops.

In 2023, Google initially introduced support for Passkeys, offering users a passwordless login option. However, this feature was limited to saving Passkeys on Google Password Manager only on Android devices. Users had to scan QR codes with their Android devices to use Passkeys on other platforms. Now, Google has expanded this functionality.

Chirag Desai, Product Manager at Google Chrome, stated that users can now save Passkeys on devices like Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. These Passkeys will automatically sync across all devices, simplifying the user experience.

While the cloud sync feature enhances accessibility, it also raises security concerns. To address this issue, Google has introduced a PIN feature in the Password Manager to encrypt Passkeys and protect them from unauthorized access.

The PIN is a six-digit code that users can set up for added security. Additionally, users have the option to choose longer PINs with alphanumeric combinations for enhanced protection.

Users will be prompted to enter the PIN when using Passkeys on a new device. Android users can access Passkeys through their screen lock, eliminating the need for a PIN.
