LPDDR5X memory qualifies for Qualcomm-based 5G phones

Micron Technology has announced that its LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 storage have been validated and featured in the reference designs of the latest mobile platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for flagship smartphones now includes Micron’s high-performance memory and storage solutions, providing a glimpse into the performance potential for smartphone OEMs.

Micron’s LPDDR5X memory, known for being the fastest JEDEC-standard low-power DRAM in the industry, offers speeds up to 9.6 gigabits per second. This increased bandwidth of over 12% enables data-rich AI experiences at the edge, making it ideal for energy-intensive applications with AI. The LPDDR5X’s power efficiency and high bandwidth will help drive mobile AI capabilities to new heights.

On the storage front, Micron’s UFS 4.0 storage utilizes advanced NAND technology and is available in capacities up to 1TB. This large storage capacity enables flagship smartphones to handle extensive data sets generated by on-device AI, enhancing the overall AI experience for users. Additionally, storing data locally enhances security and privacy for users.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, launched recently by Qualcomm Technologies, represents a significant leap in mobile processing power. The collaboration between Micron and Qualcomm Technologies to integrate LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 into Qualcomm’s latest chipset reference design will facilitate the seamless adoption of these solutions in upcoming AI-capable smartphones. This partnership builds on a history of successful collaborations between the two companies, with Micron’s mobile portfolio already validated for previous Snapdragon platforms.
