43.5 GHz cables serve 5G and wireless applications

Samtec offers Nitrowave microwave cable assemblies in its LL043 Series, featuring cables available in three standard lengths with SMA, 2.92 mm, and 2.4 mm end connectors.

The LL043 Series cables are designed to operate from DC to 43.5 GHz, with a maximum VSWR of 1.4:1. This wide bandwidth enables the cables to be used in 5G mmWave frequencies, as well as radar, defense, aerospace, and other applications.

Engineers at Samtec intentionally extended the frequency capability of these cables beyond traditional industry targets, resulting in 30% better insertion loss performance compared to other cables. The shielding design ensures consistent contact resistance between layers, providing a minimum shielding effectiveness of 100 dB against EMI, meeting IEC 61000-4-21 specifications.

Samtec’s innovative construction techniques ensure phase and amplitude stability while maintaining flexibility. An interlayer guarantees consistent electrical performance over the cable’s lifespan, and the low-density PTFE dielectric material provides mechanical robustness. Samtec conducted flex life tests up to 400,000 cycles and torque life tests up to 1,000,000 cycles.

The LL043 Series offers connector end options including SMA plug or SMA bulkhead jack (up to 26.5 GHz), as well as 2.92 mm and 2.4 mm plugs (up to 43.5 GHz).
