Timing device combines MEO, GEO, and LEO signal integration

VIAVI Solutions Inc. has introduced EdgeGM 7000, a durable Edge Grandmaster Clock that enhances the SecurePNT portfolio. The EdgeGM 7000 provides up to 25G Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and multi-orbit SecureTimeSM altGNSSSM for comprehensive assurance of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services crucial for critical infrastructure operations worldwide. This innovative solution will be showcased at VIAVI Stand 5A18 in Hall 5 during MWC Barcelona from March 3 to 6, 2025.

Key networks worldwide, such as 5G/6G telecommunications, AI hyperscale data centers, defense, public safety, transportation, aviation, energy, and finance, rely on publicly available GPS and GNSS signals for accurate data synchronization based on timing and location. However, these signals are susceptible to disruptions, exposing networks to risks such as jamming, spoofing, or satellite attacks. To address these vulnerabilities, governments globally are mandating critical infrastructure providers to enhance network resilience through responsible use of PNT services.

VIAVI’s SecurePNT and SecureTime offer the most resilient timing solutions in the industry by combining signals from both GNSS-dependent government and GNSS-independent commercial constellations across Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO), and Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The EdgeGM 7000 integrates advanced resiliency and PTP speed capabilities in a compact rack-mountable unit, allowing for seamless scalability through software options. It can be easily upgraded from 1/10G to 25G PTP with a simple license, and GNSS backup can be activated with an on-demand alternate GNSS GEO-L source license over the air. The EdgeGM surpasses Level 4 PNT resiliency standards set by the IEEE P1252 standard and includes tailored PTP profiles for various industries such as telecommunications, enterprise, and power.
