Google Cloud is expanding its partnerships in the telecom industry, teaming up with Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone Italy to focus on AI-driven network operations and cloud-based data modernization.
Enhancing RAN Operations with AI at Deutsche Telekom
Google Cloud and Deutsche Telekom are collaborating to improve Radio Access Network (RAN) operations by leveraging Google’s Gemini 2.0 AI model. The partnership introduces RAN Guardian, an AI agent that monitors network conditions, identifies anomalies, and optimizes services to enhance network stability and efficiency.
Abdu Mudesir, Group CTO of Deutsche Telekom, stated, “Traditional network management methods are no longer sufficient for the demands of 5G and beyond. We are leading the way with AI agents for networks, in partnership with Google Cloud, to introduce a new level of intelligence and automation in RAN operations towards autonomous, self-healing networks.”
The AI-powered system analyzes real-time network data, predicts disruptions, and suggests corrective actions to aid human operators in managing network performance effectively.
Data Infrastructure Modernization at Vodafone Italy with Google Cloud
Vodafone Italy is revamping its data infrastructure with Google Cloud, implementing an AI-driven platform called Nucleus. This cloud-based system aims to streamline data management, facilitate AI-powered analytics, and enhance operational efficiency.
Nucleus, developed by Vodafone Italy’s engineering team, integrates Google’s AI capabilities, BigQuery, and an ETL framework to consolidate fragmented data silos into a centralized, real-time ecosystem. The migration, completed in 12 months, was seamless without disrupting consumer or business operations.
Michele Bertoni, BI engineering and delivery manager for Vodafone Italy, commented, “The Nucleus framework we built fully leverages Google Cloud’s capabilities to create new value and transform our operations. We have significantly improved operational speed and adaptability, positioning us to seize new opportunities, deepen collaborations, and drive substantial growth.”
