Decentralized trading platform D.Energy believes that blockchain has a crucial role in the shift towards renewable energy. CEO Shafi Rafi stated on Rug Radio’s FOMO Hour that the company’s mission is to “make clean energy the new currency of the digital world.”
D.Energy’s layer-1 blockchain ecosystem operates on a unique “Proof of Energy” consensus mechanism. Validators purchase and stake tokenized renewable energy certificates (RECs) representing energy generated from renewable sources.
Rafi highlighted that D.Energy is the first L1 blockchain powered by an NFT in the form of real-world assets. The network offsets its energy consumption through redeeming RECs at a ratio of 1000:1, ensuring support for renewable energy generation.
This “inverted mining” process offsets energy consumption, creating a regenerative system that adds clean energy to the environment. D.Energy aims to democratize energy through a peer-to-peer, borderless “energy-backed economy” using the WATT token.
Rafi emphasized the limitations of the current energy market, noting geographical restrictions. In D.Energy’s ecosystem, individuals worldwide can trade and stake renewable energy, transcending geographical barriers.
