Camino partners with Lufthansa Systems and SWISS to drive innovation in the travel industry

The collaboration between the Camino Network Foundation, Lufthansa Systems, and Swiss International Air Lines has led to the development of cutting-edge blockchain solutions for the travel industry.

In a recent web3-focused hackathon in Frankfurt, the Camino Network Foundation, Lufthansa Systems, and Swiss International Air Lines joined forces to drive innovation in the travel sector.

Experts at the event harnessed the power of blockchain and artificial intelligence to create solutions that prioritize efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability within the travel industry.

Teams from 13 different travel and tech companies collaborated for 48 hours to develop practical solutions utilizing the Camino Network blockchain for the distribution of flight and travel products.

The hackathon focused on various topics such as payment methods, carbon dioxide offsetting, and accessing emerging sales markets.

“The hackathon clearly demonstrated how connections that used to take months can now be established within days. The new solutions are not only more efficient but also cost-effective, with potential savings of up to 98% as shown by Hotelplan, and enhanced sustainability by up to 50% according to Carbify’s CO₂ analysis,” stated Pablo Castillo, CEO of Chain4Travel and initiator of the Camino Network.

One standout presentation was by the Unimoni team, presenting a solution to integrate 300,000 India-based travel agencies into the Camino Network.

Additionally, the SWISS and Digital Hangar team showcased a web3 travel identity solution that includes wallet integration and the issuance of real-world assets like vouchers and digital services.

“In addition to the innovative use cases developed during the hackathon, it was remarkable to see how the teams seamlessly integrated LHG flight content into their platforms in just two days. The commercial potential of this technology is promising, particularly in terms of faster partner integration and reduced distribution costs,” said Mickael Woelcke, project manager at SWISS.

Following the hackathon, the Lufthansa Group will assess which projects are ready for pilot applications.
