Ooredoo Introduces AI Cloud Services in Qatar, Boosted by Nvidia GPUs
Ooredoo has recently unveiled its AI cloud services in Qatar, utilizing Nvidia’s Hopper GPUs and operating within the country’s borders. This move allows businesses to access high-performance computing capabilities without depending on international providers, aligning with a broader trend towards local control of digital infrastructure.
The AI services are housed in domestic data centers and cater to sectors such as energy, finance, logistics, and healthcare. The primary objective is to democratize AI usage nationwide while ensuring data security and compliance with local regulations. By leveraging lower latency and domestic hosting, organizations can execute large-scale AI workloads without the need to transfer data across borders.
Globally, countries are developing their own AI infrastructure to reduce reliance on foreign technologies and enhance control over sensitive information. Ooredoo’s initiative aligns with this trend by offering expedited access to computational resources for Qatari businesses, all while adhering to local guidelines. This setup empowers companies to develop and deploy AI solutions without compromising data integrity.
Sheikh Ali Bin Jabor Al-Thani, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar, expressed pride in delivering cutting-edge AI infrastructure to Qatar, equipping customers with the necessary tools to translate aspirations into tangible solutions. The collaboration with Nvidia facilitates broader AI utilization, benefiting entities ranging from startups to governmental bodies and contributing to economic growth and elevated citizen experiences.
As a certified Nvidia Cloud Partner, Ooredoo customers can leverage Nvidia’s AI Enterprise platform to progress AI projects from conception to implementation. The platform enables developers to craft solutions like chatbots, analytics systems, and AI-driven logistics applications, all hosted locally in Qatar.
This initiative supports national agendas such as the Qatar Digital Agenda 2030 and the National AI Strategy, emphasizing secure local infrastructure and responsible AI deployment to foster economic diversification and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources. The initiative also reflects a wider regional shift towards AI sovereignty, with nations prioritizing local data storage and regulatory oversight to sustain competitiveness.
Furthermore, the enhanced infrastructure may attract international enterprises seeking to operate within the region while retaining control over their data. Qatar’s stringent regulations and dependable hosting services position it as an appealing destination for global AI operations.
Ooredoo, operating across nine countries in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia, reported QAR 23 billion (US$6.31 billion) in revenue as of December 2024. This financial strength enables the company to continue investing in cutting-edge projects like the AI cloud services launch.
