Cybersecurity experts have brought to light a mobile forensics tool known as Massistant utilized by law enforcement agencies in China to extract data from confiscated mobile devices.
The tool, believed to be an evolution of MFSocket, is developed by a Chinese company called SDIC Intelligence Xiamen Information Co., Ltd., formerly known as Meiya Pico. The company specializes in electronic data forensics and network information security technology products.
Per a report by Lookout, Massistant operates in conjunction with desktop software, enabling access to GPS location data, SMS messages, images, audio, contacts, and phone services on the device.
