Chainlink launches real-time US equities data streams on 37 blockchains

Chainlink has recently launched a groundbreaking product known as Data Streams, which brings real-time pricing data for major US equities and ETFs directly onto blockchain networks.

As stated in an August 4 announcement, Data Streams is designed to provide live, low-latency data on popular US stocks and ETFs such as SPY, QQQ, NVDA, AAPL, and MSFT.

These data streams are currently available on 37 blockchain networks, enabling the development of innovative applications like tokenized stock trading, perpetual futures, and synthetic ETFs.

Data Streams aggregate real-time data from multiple reliable sources to ensure continuous availability. This data is processed through Chainlink’s decentralized oracle networks (DONs) and delivered on-chain in a structured format.

Each data point is timestamped, allowing platforms to distinguish between current and outdated prices. This feature also facilitates automatic trading suspension during market closures to ensure trading halts during non-operational hours.

These advancements empower developers to create sophisticated financial products like perpetual contracts, lending platforms, synthetic ETFs, and other complex instruments.

With the RWA market expected to grow to $30 trillion by 2030, this infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring security and scalability in tokenized equity markets.

Johann Eid, Chainlink’s Chief Business Officer, emphasized the importance of Data Streams in bridging the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology.

He stated:

“This marks a significant advancement for tokenized markets, bridging a crucial divide between traditional finance and blockchain infrastructure.”

Notably, prominent DeFi protocols like GMX and Kamino Finance have already integrated Data Streams into their platforms.

Thomas Short, co-founder of Kamino Finance, highlighted how Data Streams enhance user experience by providing a seamless interface while upholding trust and security across supported projects.

He added:

“The introduction of Data Streams for US equities and ETFs marks a pivotal step towards a truly adaptable on-chain financial system that matches the depth and complexity of traditional markets.”
