Malaysia to launch Cloud Policy at Asean AI Summit

Malaysia is set to unveil its National Cloud Computing Policy (NCCP) on August 13 at the Asean AI Malaysia Summit 2025 (AAIMS25). The policy aims to enhance Malaysia’s national cloud infrastructure, strengthen data governance, and accelerate cloud adoption in both public and private sectors. Digital Ministry secretary-general Fabian Bigar announced that the policy launch will be officiated by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

The NCCP is designed to support Malaysia’s broader initiatives in AI and digital technology. Fabian emphasized that the policy serves as a foundational enabler for AI and digital innovation, paving the way for a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready digital economy. AAIMS25 will showcase how cloud and AI can collaborate to drive regional partnerships and generate new digital opportunities across Southeast Asia.

The summit will feature Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivering the opening keynote on August 12. Additionally, ministers from various Asean countries, including Singapore and Cambodia, as well as the Asean secretary-general, will attend the event. Malaysia’s AI strategies prioritize inclusion, innovation, and integrity, with plans to expand its cloud vision in the region while fostering collaboration on AI policy, standards, talent development, and ecosystem building.

The event aligns with broader Asean objectives such as the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025 and the group’s guidelines on AI governance and ethics. The participation of the Asean Secretariat underscores the summit’s significance and reinforces regional support for AI collaboration. AAIMS25 aims to facilitate a joint statement by Asean digital ministers to harmonize policies, identify shared priorities, and establish common rules for managing AI and digital technologies.

The summit will leverage existing frameworks like the Asean Guide for AI Governance and Ethics and the Responsible AI Roadmap to drive regional actions promoting safe, fair, and accountable AI usage. It will advocate for increased public and private investment in AI to enhance accessibility, establish regional testing grounds for new ideas, and bolster the Aswan AI Safety Network for knowledge-sharing and best practices in the region.

With over 1,500 delegates expected to attend, representing Asean countries, Timor-Leste, dialogue partners, and the wider AI community, the two-day event will bring together government leaders, global AI experts, and industry voices to discuss key topics such as digital trust, governance, infrastructure, and AI policy. The summit’s agenda is structured around five main themes: governance and trust, cloud infrastructure and data sovereignty, real-world use cases, skills and workforce changes, and emerging AI developments.

Noteworthy policymakers, academic leaders, and global AI experts will contribute insights from research, policy, and practical experience to enrich discussions at AAIMS25. The event promises to be a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in advancing AI and digital technology in the region.
