VCSEL provides drop-in replacement with 150 μm substrate

TRUMPF Photonic Components has unveiled a cutting-edge 100G VCSEL designed for data communication applications. The innovative 850nm multimode datacom VCSEL delivers exceptional bandwidth and linearity performance, even at temperatures up to 85°C. This technology is ideal for 800G SR8 and 400G SR4 active optical cables and transceivers, including linear pluggable optics.

This VCSEL serves as a superior alternative to existing solutions with substrate thicknesses of 150μm and 200μm. When paired with a wideband photodiode, this VCSEL offers enhanced performance optimization capabilities, making it a powerful duo for various applications.

TRUMPF also offers a high-performance 100G photodiode that covers wavelengths from 842nm to 948nm, catering to short-reach optical links in data communication systems. The company is ramping up production to meet the demand for 100G VCSEL and photodiode products, while also exploring the development of 200G 850nm devices, longer wavelengths like 1060nm, and subwavelength grating technologies.

VCSEL-based technology is widely used in optical data communication systems for seamless data transmission. TRUMPF provides a range of VCSELs and photodiodes in various configurations, including singlets, 1×2, 1×4, 1×8, and 1×12 arrays. These solutions are tailored to meet the needs of data centers, AI/ML applications, computing systems, and other bandwidth-intensive applications requiring reliable data transmission at high speeds.
