Clearstream, a part of the Deutsche Börse Group, has recently introduced a tokenized securities platform known as D7 DLT. This innovative platform utilizes distributed ledger technology and complies with central securities depository regulations. D7 DLT complements Clearstream’s existing D7 digital issuance platform, offering clients the option to choose between digital and tokenized securities.

The launch of D7 DLT follows Clearstream’s participation in previous DLT trials with the European Central Bank in 2024. These trials involved live bond issuances conducted entirely on distributed ledger technology, demonstrating the platform’s ability to handle various asset classes and central bank digital currency positions.
D7 DLT will initially be accessible internationally to issuer clients of Clearstream Banking S.A. The initial expected issuances will include commercial papers and medium-term notes, benefiting from quicker issuance and intraday funding.

Jens Hachmeister, Head of Issuer Services & New Digital Markets at Clearstream, stated that the platform “provides the flexibility to choose between digital and tokenized issuance” and addresses current client needs while supporting future developments in capital markets.

Google Cloud Provides Infrastructure Support
Google Cloud, a strategic partner of the Deutsche Börse Group, offers the infrastructure and technical support for D7 DLT. Matt Renner, President, Global Revenue at Google Cloud, mentioned that the collaboration combines “secure and scalable infrastructure with Clearstream’s expertise in distributed ledger technology” to support securities issuance and management.
Clearstream emphasized that D7 DLT enhances issuance and lifecycle management, provides transparent and secure records of ownership, and seamlessly integrates with existing market infrastructure, including Deutsche Börse Group’s 360X multilateral trading facility.
