Initially, Vida thought it might be a hacked account or a market-making glitch. He took advantage of the situation by trading in two phases – first selling a large spot and futures exposure during the pump, and then shorting the token.
The incident, which involved a $26 million bid wall, caused chaos in the market. Vida, who had a complex funding rate arbitrage book, saw his strategy break down as the spot position increased while the futures leg lagged behind. Despite the opportunity to lock in a $300,000 profit, Vida hesitated due to the abnormal price action.
Upon further investigation, Vida discovered the source of the distortion – a massive buy wall on the Binance spot market, which was highly unusual for a token with a small market capitalization.
