In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, digital sovereignty and security are becoming increasingly important for decision-makers. A recent report sheds light on the rise of sovereign cloud zones and stricter obligations under NIS2. Data centers are seen as crucial to Europe’s independence, with projections showing a significant increase in their economic contribution.
The report predicts that the sector’s GDP contribution will soar to €137.5 billion by 2031, marking a substantial growth from €53 billion in 2025. This growth is attributed to various factors, including the construction, operation, and supply chain activities that generate economic value across the continent.
Looking ahead, it is clear that Europe’s infrastructure strategy must encompass power procurement, regulatory compliance, and AI-specific design. Capital investment will continue to flow into the sector, but the focus will be on clustering capacity where energy and connectivity intersect.
