BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) outperformed the entire US Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) market on August 27, attracting $277.6 million in net inflows. This amount surpassed the $242.3 million recorded by US spot Bitcoin ETFs collectively. The significant difference in inflows was due to redemptions from other funds such as Fidelity’s FBTC and Grayscale’s GBTC, which experienced outflows totaling $110.8 million.
Despite the outflows from other funds, smaller products like Bitwise’s BITB and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB saw inflows totaling $75.5 million. Even with these additional inflows, funds outside of IBIT ended the session with a net outflow of $35.3 million.
BlackRock’s dominance in the market extended beyond a single session, with IBIT contributing $2.3 billion out of the $3.05 billion total inflows garnered by US Bitcoin ETFs over a nine-day period. Since its launch in January 2024, IBIT has consistently recorded inflows, accumulating $63 billion in net inflows and managing $62 billion in assets.
The rapid growth and success of IBIT have also extended into derivatives, with options on IBIT becoming one of the largest venues for Bitcoin options exposure. This success can be attributed to BlackRock’s significant distribution reach, managing over $10 trillion globally and having strong relationships with wealth-management and institutional platforms.
While Bitcoin ETFs as a whole continue to attract capital, a large portion of the recent inflows has been directed towards BlackRock’s IBIT. This trend highlights the structural advantages and reputation that BlackRock brings to the table in the world of Bitcoin investment.
