Movement Labs Unveils Developer Mainnet Ahead of February’s Public Launch

Blockchain firm Movement Labs has launched a developer mainnet to further its mission of bringing Facebook’s (META) Move Virtual Machine (MoveVM) to Ethereum.

The developer mainnet’s rollout marks the beginning of Movement’s core infrastructure deployment, enabling selected partners to begin integrating decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, as per an email announcement sent on Tuesday.

This release follows Movement’s initial mainnet launch in December and precedes the upcoming public mainnet beta release scheduled for next month.

The Move Virtual Machine was initially developed as part of Facebook’s now-defunct digital currency initiative, Diem, which was put on hold at the beginning of 2022. However, the technology was repurposed for the creation of the Sui and Aptos layer-1 networks.

With the support of a $38 million Series A funding round led by Polychain Capital, Movement Labs is now expanding the programming language to an Ethereum layer 2 for the first time.

Alongside the public mainnet deployment, Movement will also introduce a multi-asset liquidity program to lay the groundwork for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.
