Meta Fired Employees For Alleged Information Leaks

After raising concerns for some time, Mark Zuckerberg, the mastermind behind Meta (formerly Facebook), has decided to part ways with certain employees. Recent reports suggest that Meta has officially terminated some staff members, citing leaks of internal information.

Meta Fires ‘Approximately 20’ Employees Over Leaks

According to The Verge, Meta has recently dismissed a number of employees on suspicion of leaking internal information.

Specifically, Meta has let go of around 20 employees, holding them accountable for disclosing the company’s confidential discussions to the public. Quoting an exclusive statement from Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold, The Verge reported,

We inform employees upon joining the company, and we provide periodic reminders, that leaking internal information is against our policies, regardless of the intent.

Despite clear guidelines, Meta employees allegedly continue to share internal communications, meeting details, and other confidential data. Consequently, the company has initiated a process to identify such employees and terminate their employment. In the recent wave, Meta has confirmed the dismissal of approximately 20 employees following internal investigations.

We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in roughly 20 employees being terminated for sharing confidential information outside the company.

More Terminations Expected as Meta Cracks Down on ‘Leakers’

Meta has voiced concerns about leaks of internal communications on multiple occasions. These concerns have escalated as leaks of Meta’s, particularly Zuckerberg’s, statements during internal meetings persist. Some of these internal leaks even include details such as undisclosed product plans and overall internal communications.

Earlier this year, Meta’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Guy Rosen, highlighted that such internal leaks not only pose a security threat but also adversely affect employee morale.

When information is stolen or leaked, there are consequences beyond the immediate security impact. Our teams lose motivation and valuable time that could be better utilized in working on our products and achieving our goals and mission.

Even then, Rosen cautioned all employees to take this matter seriously, as the company would take necessary actions against those found guilty. Rosen also stressed potential terminations in this context and hinted at similar measures taken by the company in the past due to information leaks.

We recently severed ties with employees who inappropriately leaked confidential company information and exfiltrated sensitive documents.

With the recent wave of employee terminations, Meta is bracing for more as it continues to identify offenders.

We anticipate more terminations. We are committed to addressing this issue seriously and will take action when we identify leaks.

Currently, it remains unclear who the terminated employees are and how many more may be added to the list. However, what is evident is that Meta is now implementing stringent measures to curb internal leaks.
