IBM to offer watsonx AI tools on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

IBM and Oracle collaborate to expand AI capabilities

IBM is enhancing its AI efforts through an extended partnership with Oracle. The company is set to integrate its Watsonx AI tools into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to simplify the management of AI agents for businesses.

AI agents, which are software tools that execute tasks based on user commands, are increasingly being adopted in workplaces to streamline operations and reduce manual work. By offering Watsonx on OCI, IBM aims to cater to the rising demand for AI integration.

Among the first solutions to be introduced is Watsonx Orchestrate, enabling users to oversee workflows involving multiple agents across various systems, including non-Oracle applications. This feature is expected to be accessible on OCI starting from July.

IBM’s Orchestrate agents will integrate with Oracle’s AI services, such as the Oracle AI Agent Studio for Fusion Applications and OCI Generative AI Agents. These agents are designed to enhance third-party and custom applications, with initial applications likely focusing on tasks in human resources, like onboarding automation.

The Orchestrate agents will operate on Red Hat OpenShift on OCI and can be deployed in public, sovereign, government, and Oracle Alloy regions for workloads with strict privacy and regulatory requirements. They can also run on-premise or in various cloud environments.

Furthermore, IBM’s Granite models, a series of open-source, specialized AI models, will be integrated into OCI’s AI Quick Actions later this year. These models are optimized for specific tasks and consume less computing resources compared to larger, multi-purpose models. Oracle will host cached versions to improve response times and reduce startup delays.

In addition, IBM’s Envizi ESG Suite, a solution for managing environmental, social, and governance data, will be available on Oracle infrastructure, with the initial launch planned for Saudi Arabia next year.

IBM is expanding its consulting services to assist customers in deploying and scaling AI agents on Oracle, whether they are native Oracle AI agents or Watsonx Orchestrate. Consultation services will also be offered for migrating services from on-premise to Red Hat OpenShift on OCI.

IBM’s consulting division brings extensive experience with Oracle’s technology, as the two companies have collaborated for nearly four decades.
