AIS and Oracle Collaborate to Launch Cloud Platform in Thailand
AIS has partnered with Oracle to introduce a new cloud platform in Thailand, specifically designed to cater to the needs of businesses and government agencies seeking greater control over their data storage and management. The platform, known as AIS Cloud powered by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, operates exclusively on servers located within Thailand, adhering to local data regulations.
Both companies are investing approximately THB 4 billion in local data centers to support this initiative. The primary objective is to provide organizations with a platform to develop AI systems, store extensive data volumes, and deliver digital services, all while ensuring that the data remains within the country and complies with Thai laws.
AIS Business emphasizes that the new service targets both public and private sector users looking to enhance their IT systems without relying heavily on foreign cloud providers. By utilizing local infrastructure, businesses can mitigate risks associated with cross-border data transfers and stay in line with cybersecurity regulations mandated by Thai authorities.
The demand for computing systems capable of handling AI, machine learning, and big data is on the rise across various industries. These workloads necessitate significant storage and processing capabilities, along with the flexibility to scale up as needed. AIS asserts that its cloud system caters to these requirements while maintaining stable performance and robust data security.
Phupa Akavipat, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at AIS, stated, “We firmly believe that Thailand must cultivate its own AI capabilities to ensure long-term technological sovereignty and resilience. At AIS, we are convinced that ‘digital infrastructure owned and operated by Thais’ is the cornerstone of national development in the digital era.”
To facilitate adoption among local users, AIS offers features such as billing in Thai baht, contracts in Thai, and local-language support. The cloud platform also includes automatic scaling for heavier workloads, stringent security measures, and support for AI and analytics technologies.
AIS Cloud has become the first platform in Thailand to receive a 3-star rating under the dSURE cloud certification program. This certification, awarded by Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), evaluates cloud services for compliance, security, and performance.
DEPA’s chief technology officer, Passakon Prathombutr, highlighted the agency’s mission to advance Thailand’s digital economy by promoting the utilization of tools like cloud platforms, AI, and data systems across business, industry, and government.
In addition to the cloud launch, AIS introduced a Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform, offering customers a self-service portal to manage and adjust their network connections. This service enables users to increase bandwidth, extend services through 5G and fiber, both domestically and internationally.
AIS underscores that the NaaS offering seamlessly integrates with its new cloud service, empowering users to control how they connect systems and deliver services. It also includes 24/7 support and built-in security monitoring.
The company’s long-term vision is to become a comprehensive provider of AI and digital services in Thailand, combining cloud, compute, and network services to assist local organizations in modernizing and competing on a regional scale. Future updates may involve support for hybrid and multi-cloud setups, as well as API-based system integration.
