The rise in demand for artificial intelligence technologies is driving up profit expectations for companies in the S&P 500.
Analysts are now forecasting a 32% growth in full-year profits for 2026, a significant increase from the previous estimate of 24%, according to The Kobeissi Letter.
This quarter saw 86% of S&P 500 companies surpassing analyst expectations, the highest beat rate in five years.
Earnings estimates for Communication Services have jumped to 51% growth from the initial 26% projection at the beginning of the second quarter, while forecasts for Consumer Discretionary have risen to 32% from 12%, driven by Amazon’s results.
The Energy and information technology sectors now face projections of 83% and 59% growth, respectively, reflecting the widespread benefits of AI infrastructure investments.
“AI is fueling significant profit growth.”
The Kobeissi Letter emphasizes that AI is now “single-handedly driving the global economy.”
“The fact that the S&P 500 is just 2.5% away from a record high despite the state of the bond market is remarkable.
Without AI, the S&P 500 would be at least 50% lower right now.
Without the surge in oil prices, the S&P 500 would be above 9,000.”
Delving deeper into artificial intelligence, The Kobeissi Letter predicts that the agentic AI market is set for substantial growth.
“The enterprise agentic AI market is projected to expand from $2.6 billion to $24.5 billion by 2030, a more than 9x increase.
These systems have the ability to reason and act with minimal human intervention.
By 2028, it is expected that 30% of enterprise applications will incorporate autonomous agents, as per Gartner’s forecasts.
Adoption is anticipated to grow across customer service, operations, finance, HR, and cybersecurity.
The significant shift is that AI is transitioning from merely supporting humans to actually performing and coordinating tasks.
This could lead to substantial cost savings and operational enhancements.
