Solana triples transaction size as major upgrades meet record network activity

Solana is implementing significant performance upgrades as network activity hits all-time highs. The blockchain is enhancing data capacity in transactions and shortening time intervals between slots, boosting transaction capability and network responsiveness.

The latest upgrade introduces the V1 transaction format, allowing a single transaction to carry over three times more data at 4,096 bytes. This gives developers more flexibility to include complex actions in one transaction, improving efficiency. Additionally, the network is reducing slot intervals to increase responsiveness.

As Solana’s activity surges, the network processed a record 5.2 billion non-vote transactions in August, surpassing previous numbers. Revenue from Solana applications hit $40.8 million last week, with decentralized exchanges handling $16.59 billion, solidifying Solana’s position as a top blockchain by DEX volume.

Stablecoin activity and tokenized equities supply on Solana are also on the rise, indicating a diverse range of network activities. The transition to 250ms slots on Sept. 18 comes amid record network usage, setting the stage for further improvements as Solana continues to scale.
