Evolution Mining Ltd., an Australian gold miner, is currently recovering from a ransomware attack that struck its IT systems on August 8th.
The company stated that the ransomware incident has been “contained” and is not expected to have a significant impact on its operations. However, Evolution Mining did not disclose any further details regarding the attack or whether any data was compromised.
According to a statement released by the mining company, they have been collaborating with external cyber forensic experts to investigate the incident. The company believes that the situation is under control and has been managed to prioritize the safety of individuals, as well as the protection of systems and data. Evolution Mining reassured that operations are not expected to be materially affected.
In a separate cyber incident, Australia Northern Minerals Ltd. experienced a cyberattack in June, resulting in the compromise of sensitive employee data.
Australia has been strengthening its cybersecurity regulations following a series of notable cyberattacks, including one that disrupted operations at four major ports in the country.
