Google Cloud partners with Air France-KLM to transform its data and generative AI strategy

Google Cloud and Air France-KLM Form Strategic Collaboration

Google Cloud and Air France-KLM have joined forces to revolutionize the travel industry by harnessing the power of data, analytics, and generative AI technology. This collaboration aims to accelerate Air France-KLM’s data-centric and multicloud strategy, driving innovation and transforming the future of travel.

Air France-KLM, a prominent global airline group with three major airline companies, 551 operating aircraft, and 93 million passengers carried in 2023, generates massive amounts of data through its commercial and cargo flights, as well as engineering and maintenance services. To enhance its operations and improve customer satisfaction, Air France-KLM is transitioning from its legacy data centers to a multi-cloud strategy, leveraging Google Cloud’s data and analytics tools, including BigQuery. This shift will enable Air France-KLM to gain deeper insights into passenger preferences, optimize operations, and enhance services, while maintaining full control and ownership of its data.

The collaboration will also explore the benefits of generative AI, with early use cases including customer agent support and more efficient aircraft maintenance. By building a joint data lakehouse and leveraging Google Cloud’s gen AI expertise, Air France-KLM aims to accelerate its gen AI strategy and pioneer new services in a dedicated and secured gen AI cloud instance.

To support this transformation, Google Cloud will provide training and support sessions to Air France-KLM’s teams, fostering a culture of data democratisation and enabling them to leverage cloud and data technologies for informed decision-making and innovation.

Matt Renner, President, Global Revenue at Google Cloud, expressed pride in supporting Air France-KLM’s innovation journey and shaping the future of the airline industry through data-driven insights and gen AI capabilities.
