17 February 2025 — Tether, the leading company in the digital asset industry, has announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of the Republic of Guinea. This strategic partnership aims to delve into blockchain and peer-to-peer technologies, exploring the potential for driving economic growth and positioning the country as a frontrunner in Africa’s digital transformation.

The MoU underscores Tether’s dedication to promoting blockchain adoption worldwide, in line with its mission to encourage innovation, education, and responsible use of digital assets. This initiative goes beyond conventional learning methods, laying a solid foundation for sustainable success.

The MoU focuses on education, innovation, and sustainable technology practices while facilitating the transfer of international knowledge and best practices to Guinea. It aims to set the stage for the country’s adoption of blockchain technologies and create an environment conducive to innovation. A crucial aspect of this initiative is the potential development of blockchain expertise and education in collaboration with Cité des Sciences et de l’Innovation de Guinée (City of Science and Innovation of Guinea). Educational programs will be introduced across Guinea’s public and private sectors to raise awareness, foster skills, and nurture local talent in digital technologies.

Tether is committed to supporting Guinea’s “Innovation City” project, an endeavor designed to cement the country’s position as a digital economy leader by establishing a dynamic hub for technology, research, and entrepreneurship to flourish. These efforts align with the government’s broader objectives of promoting economic growth and advancing technological innovation.

This MoU builds on Tether’s established track record of collaborating with governments and institutions to advocate for the responsible adoption of blockchain technology. Tether’s previous engagements in initiatives such as the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano, Switzerland, demonstrate its dedication to advancing blockchain adoption and education globally. Other notable initiatives include driving digital asset education in Türkiye, developing blockchain and peer-to-peer telecommunication infrastructure in Uzbekistan to foster innovation and growth, and educational programs on Bitcoin and stablecoins in the Ras Al Khaimah region.

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, remarked, “We are excited to partner with the Republic of Guinea to potentially unlock the vast potential of blockchain and digital technologies across Africa. This MoU reflects our commitment to helping countries build robust digital economies. Together, we aim to implement efficient blockchain solutions that benefit both public and private sectors, paving the way for economic growth and positioning Guinea as a technological innovation leader.”
