Amazon and Google team up to cut multicloud downtime

A groundbreaking multicloud networking solution developed by Amazon and Google is now accessible, offering businesses a quicker way to connect the two tech giants’ cloud platforms in the face of potential internet disruptions. The service enables customers to establish private, high-speed connections between AWS and Google Cloud in mere minutes, a significant improvement from the usual weeks-long setup process.

This release follows closely after the AWS outage on October 20, which impacted numerous websites and caused popular apps like Snapchat and Reddit to go offline. Parametrix, an analytics firm, estimates that US businesses could face losses of $500 million to $650 million due to this incident.

The new offering combines AWS’ Interconnect-multicloud and Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect to facilitate seamless networking between the two providers. Robert Kennedy, AWS’ VP of network services, noted that this collaboration signifies a significant advancement in multicloud connectivity. Similarly, Rob Enns, Google Cloud’s VP and GM of cloud networking, expressed that the objective is to streamline data and application migration between clouds for users. Notably, Salesforce has already adopted this new model.

While AWS maintains its position as the leading cloud provider, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud follow closely behind in market share. Cloud providers are heavily investing in infrastructure to accommodate the surging internet traffic and the increased adoption of artificial intelligence technologies. Companies like Alphabet, Microsoft, and Amazon are at the forefront of meeting these demands by providing robust computing capabilities.

Amazon’s cloud business reported impressive results in the third quarter, generating $33 billion in revenue, while Google Cloud recorded $15.16 billion during the same period. At AWS re:Invent 2025 in Las Vegas, Amazon shared updates on Amazon Connect, introducing new agentic self-service tools designed to enhance customer interactions.

Amazon Connect now offers AI features that assist customer service staff by analyzing conversations in real-time, providing recommendations, and automating tasks. The platform leverages AI to deliver personalized support through unified customer profiles and real-time product recommendations based on customer behavior.

Overall, the collaboration between AWS and Google Cloud, coupled with advancements in AI capabilities, is set to transform the landscape of cloud networking and customer service, offering businesses enhanced connectivity and efficiency in managing their cloud environments.
