Samsung showcased advancements in artificial intelligence integrated with live telecom infrastructure at MWC 2026. The demonstration highlighted AI running alongside radio functions within a cloud-native network stack. This innovative approach involved Samsung’s virtualised radio access network (vRAN) platform, integrated with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing technology.
The test environment simulated real network conditions to showcase AI-based signal processing and beamforming capabilities within the RAN stack. While this was not a commercial rollout announcement, it demonstrated the potential for AI and radio functions to coexist in a software-defined network architecture.
Traditionally, radio access networks relied on dedicated hardware systems, but virtualised RAN shifts these functions into software that can run on commercial servers. By containerising functions in a cloud-native model, operators can increase efficiency and reduce duplication of compute resources.
The demonstration at MWC also highlighted the importance of AI-driven beamforming and signal optimisation in improving spectral efficiency and overall network throughput. While no commercial benchmarks were disclosed, the focus was on showcasing technical feasibility within a virtualised RAN framework.
