Hyundai’s Revolutionary Seven-Minute Avalanche Transfer
Hyundai is currently assessing the capability of the infrastructure to handle the increased transaction volumes and operational complexity required by Hyundai Motor Group.
In a groundbreaking move, Hyundai Card recently announced the successful completion of a proof of concept involving a real cross-border payment between Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor Mexico.
Although the transaction amount was relatively small (approximately $20,000), it was significant as Hyundai transferred actual corporate funds.
Hyundai Motor America initiated the process by converting $20,000 into Tether’s dollar-pegged stablecoin, $USDT. The $USDT was then sent to Hyundai Motor’s Mexican operation using Avalanche technology before being converted back into U.S. dollars.
According to Hyundai Card, the entire process took an average of just seven minutes, a stark contrast to the three to four hours typically required by traditional banking infrastructure for similar transactions.
This pioneering project involved collaboration between Hyundai Card, Hyundai Motor, Tether, Avalanche, and blockchain payments infrastructure company Axiom.
An Avalanche executive confirmed that the experiment entailed genuine intercompany settlement, marking a significant step beyond simulated blockchain transactions.
While many large corporations have explored blockchain proofs of concept, the Hyundai Avalanche pilot has the potential to transform into a foundational infrastructure for regular corporate treasury operations.
Although Hyundai has not yet announced a widespread implementation or provided a timeline for full commercialization, the success of this initiative hints at a promising future for blockchain technology in corporate finance.
